We offer a wide range of general wellness services including routine check-ups, vaccinations, dental exams and floats, deworming, and routine bloodwork. Furthermore, we offer abdominal and thoracic ultrasounds to look deeper into the more difficult issues.
Dr. Kara is experienced in baseline lameness exams along with advanced ultrasound and digital radiography. Whether you are looking for a baseline lameness or ways to improve your equine athlete's performance, book an appointment today! We offer an indoor trotting area as well to perform exams year round.
Along with routine joint injections, East River Equine provides advanced therapies, such as ProStride. Dr. Kara's training allows her to perform multiple ultrasound-guided injections, including SI, neck, and back injections.
At East River Equine, we provide veterinary grade shockwave therapy using PulseVet. Shockwave therapy can help a variety of conditions ranging from soft tissue healing to neck and back pain. We have also had recent success in using shockwave therapy to treat EIPH (bleeding). Please inquire today for more information.
We offer in-patient stalls with cameras to provide consistent treatment and monitoring for your horse. From advanced wound care to colic, we are happy to care for your equine companion in house. At this time due to staffing, we do not accept mare and foal hospitalization and only offer hospitalization to established clients. Please note,
WE ARE NOT A SURGICAL FACILITY.
If your horse decides to have an emergency outside of normal business hours, we are available for evaluation and care. We provide services at our haul-in facility and in the field within our call range. We offer emergency services to all patients, established customer or not. Please contact us directly at our phone number (605) 651-9327 for emergency services.
We are equipped to provide you same day results on your horse's overall health through our new bloodwork machines. In house we can run a full chemistry or complete blood count (CBC) along with evaluating joint/tendon fluid and checking muscle values. This allows us to better care for your horse both in the clinic and in the field.
If your horse is having behavioral issues, periodic colic signs, or is uncomfortable when cinching, it may need to be evaluated for gastric ulcers. The gastroscope allows us to navigate to your horse's stomach to check for ulcers that can be treated with a number of different medications. Evaluation of the ulcer location is important since different locations require different medications to resolve.
A coughing horse can be due to multiple things. Our respiratory workup is a complete evaluation of all of possible factors. The work up begins with an ultrasound of the lung fields. It is followed by an upper respiratory scope. The upper respiratory scope can be used to evaluate a horse's respiratory function and perform a non-invasive tracheal wash to culture the respiratory fluid for bacteria. We also perform bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) to look for signs of RAO (Equine Asthma) or EIPH (bleeding). We can do any and all of these things during your horse's appointment.
